Anita’s Journey: From Interrupted Education to Future Doctor
In 2016, Anita, a bright and determined young girl, came to us with her mother while she was in Grade 8. Due to severe financial difficulties, her mother had been forced to withdraw her from school, putting Anita’s education and future at risk. Recognizing her potential and commitment to learning, KJ, then serving as Group Managing Director of Specialised Systems Limited ( Philips), took responsibility for supporting Anita’s education and personally funded her school fees through to Grade 12.
Anita excelled academically, achieving distinctions in almost all her subjects. Her outstanding performance earned her admission to Levy Mwanawasa Medical University in Lusaka, Zambia, to pursue a degree in Medicine. Since 2020, Smart Villages Africa has continued to support Anita’s educational journey. Her tuition fees are generously funded by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, while her monthly living expenses and accommodation are supported by KJ and his family.
Today, we are proud to share that Anita is in her final year of medical school. Upon graduation, she will undertake the required two-year house surgeon internship before qualifying as a medical doctor. At present, Smart Villages Africa does not require additional funding for Anita’s studies. However, support may be needed in the future should she be unable to secure a government-sponsored internship placement.
Anita’s story is a powerful example of how timely support, educational opportunity, and community commitment can transform a life. We are confident that she will soon fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor and dedicate her skills and compassion to serving those most in need.
